Equipment

  • Pot/kettle
  • Matcha wisk or fork
  • grater
  • mug or glass

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon matcha powder good quality if possible
  • 1 umeboshi plum or about 1 teaspoon umeboshi paste
  • 1 slice fresh ginger finely grated
  • 1 small piece dried kombu thumb-sized
  • 8 ounces warm water around 160–170°F
  • Optional: splash of lemon juice or drizzle of honey

Instructions

Step 1: Warm the Water (Not Boiling)

  • Heat water to around 160–170°F. It should feel warm but not hot enough to burn.

Step 2: Steep Kombu

  • Place the kombu in a cup of warm water. Let it steep for about 5 minutes, then remove it.

Step 3: Prepare Matcha Separately

  • In a separate small bowl, whisk matcha powder with a splash of warm water until it becomes smooth and slightly frothy.

Step 4: Mix It All Together

  • Add the grated ginger and umeboshi paste (or crushed plum) into the warm kombu water. Stir well.

Step 5: Add Matcha

  • Pour the prepared matcha into the mug and stir gently until everything is well combined.

Step 6: Adjust (Optional)

  • If the flavor feels too strong, add a splash of lemon juice or a tiny bit of honey to balance it.

Notes

  • Drink Fresh: This drink works best when consumed right after preparing.
  • Morning Timing: For better results, drink it on an empty stomach in the morning.
  • Taste Tip: Umeboshi has a bold flavor. Start with a smaller amount if it’s your first time.
  • Ingredient Swap: If you can’t find kombu or umeboshi, skip them but try to keep the matcha and ginger they do most of the work.
  • Not a Meal Replacement: This drink supports your efforts it's not a shortcut
